AN Alresford man who admitted a double assault in the town has been handed an eight-week jail term, suspended for a year.

Joseph Jay Flowers, 40, of Down Gate, admitted assaulting a man and woman on Sunday January 20.

Magistrates in Basingstoke also ordered a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 20 days.

They also imposed a restraining order to prevent Flowers from going to a street in Alresford until January 20 2020. He was also told to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

There was no order for compensation because of "sensitivity issues," the court heard.

The sentence also included punishment for a breach of a community order imposed for threatening behaviour on October 22.
