WORK will begin soon a new housing complex for older people in Alresford.

McCarthy and Stone, has announced work will soon be starting on the former Warwick Trailers site on The Dean.

Construction starts in November and apartments will be available to buy off-plan from July 2018.

The removal of industry from The Dean is a key part of the future development of the town. A new industrial zone is set to be part of the Sun Lane development on the eastern edge of Alresford.

The new Retirement Living Plus development will provide a downsizing option for retirees who need a little extra support in the form of domestic assistance, such as help with laundry or cleaning, and round-the-clock care packages.

The developers say it will bring many economic and social benefits to the town. McCarthy and Stone estimates the average total expenditure generated by its homeowners in the local economy for one of its schemes per year is £670,000, which could provide a welcome boost to nearby tea rooms and shops.

Aimed exclusively at those aged 70 and over, the new development comprises 49 one and two-bedroom flats, which will all feature fully-fitted modern kitchens with integrated appliances, underfloor heating, spacious and open-plan living areas, and en-suite bathrooms.

There will also be communal space including a large homeowners’ lounge; an on-site restaurant; and a guest suite for family and friends.

Built with security in mind, there will be a camera entry system, and all the apartments will be equipped with 24-hour emergency call points.

An estates manager and experienced support team will also be available to oversee the running of the development and to offer any help.

Kim Caldwell, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “Our New Alresford development has already attracted significant levels of interest from local people who are interested in downsizing to a lower maintenance property, and have been attracted by its enviable location in the village centre, with local amenities just a short walk away.

“McCarthy and Stone is committed to designing flexible homes which are sensitively designed to reflect the character of the neighbourhood, and to allow people to make the most of their retirement years and live as independently as possible, for as long as possible."
