Three months of tailbacks and diversions are due to end tonight (Friday).
Work on the Ashfield rail bridge, which has shut the A27 into Romsey, will come to a close at midnight.
However, due to bad weather delays, the timber cladding has not yet been fixed to the steel safety barriers.
These are due to be installed during lane closures controlled by temporary signals, after the road is opened. The bridge, over the Southampton to Salisbury line, has been closed to road traffic since the end of March, so it can be raised to accommodate new and taller freight containers.
