IF dozens of cyclists pour into Winchester on Sunday, July 15 looking a little tired, do not be surprised.
Riders will be arriving from Wantage for the fifth running of the endurance event to honour King Alfred the Great.
It starts at his birthplace in Oxfordshire and spans 50 miles to his historic capital and resting place in Winchester.
The one-day event, organised by Hyde900, usually attracts more than 100 cyclists. The finish line is underneath King Alfred’s statue in The Broadway.
Organiser Andy Key said: “It’s not a competitive event. We want people to enjoy their day, so there’s no set time limit and no-one will mind if you choose to stop for coffee or walk up a hill or two.”
The route is signposted, all riders get route guides, and there are refreshment points along the way. Entry costs £10 at hyde900.org.uk or by calling 01962 620989.
