A DRIVER is being treated in hospital with serious chest injuries after colliding with a tree.

The Straight Mile, on the A3090, in Ampfield near Romsey, is currently closed after the 53-year-old man’s came off the road and crashed his white Ford Mondeo.

Police say it is likely to remain closed until the early afternoon while wreckage is removed an accident investigation is carried out.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene of the accident which happened at about 8.45am, although the injured driver was taken by land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or the vehicle driving before it.
