In 2007, although almost a quarter of a million real Christmas trees were decorated in Hampshire, only 800 were taken to temporary disposal sites for recycling.
Test Valley Borough Council is urging the public to improve on that figure this year.
Temporary sites for the recycling of real Christmas trees will be in operation, from January 5 to 12, at B&Q in Nursling, Hillier Garden Centre on Botley Road, Knightwood Leisure Centre in Valley Park and the Village Hall at West Wellow.
All trees taken to these sites will be composted to produce Pro-Grow soil conditioner. Trees can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Bunny Lane, Timsbury.
