Phil Harvey, chair of HANTSAR, said: "We're incredibly proud to receive this recognition, but it really reflects the strength of the Lowland Rescue network and the way our teams work together.
"When someone goes missing, county boundaries don't matter.
"What matters is getting the right people and resources to where they're needed."
In 2025, HANTSAR was the largest provider of mutual aid within the Lowland Rescue network, delivering more than 400 hours of operational support to Wiltshire Search and Rescue and assisting teams in Surrey, Sussex and Dorset.
The commendation was presented to Mr Harvey by guest speaker Simon Blagden at the Lowland Rescue Conference on Saturday October 17.
It came as a complete surprise to HANTSAR members in attendance.
HANTSAR is a volunteer-led charity that supports Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary in searches for missing people and offers mutual aid to neighbouring Lowland Rescue teams.
The organisation relies on public donations and the dedication of its volunteers to continue its work.
