A stage adaptation of a classic children's story is to be welcomed back to a city theatre.

Theatre Royal Winchester will host Dear Zoo from Saturday, October 31.

The story, first published in 1982, follows Ben and Sally as they search for the perfect pet.

After they write to the zoo, children are amused by the various animals sent to them, from a "far too big" elephant to a "far too grumpy" camel and a jumpy frog.

The story, which has sold more than eight million copies worldwide, will be brought to life on stage through puppetry, song and audience participation, providing a perfect introduction to theatre for young children.

The show is presented by Norwell Lapley Productions, recognised for their touring productions in the UK and globally.

Other productions include adaptations such as Pirates Love Underpants, Tales from Acorn Wood and Dear Santa, as well as talks from bushcraft expert Ray Mears, historian Tracy Borman and forensic pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd.

Dear Zoo will be performed at Theatre Royal Winchester from Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 1, at various times.

The show is recommended for children aged two and above.
