Early risers will be out in force as a long-running car boot sale returns for its 39th year.

Home-Start Winchester’s annual charity event will take place in Wood Lane, Bramdean, near Alresford, on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.

Organisers promise a morning full of bargains and community spirit.

Chrissie Barlow, trustee of Home-Start and event organiser, said: "We’re used to the early start and are delighted that people arrive in such numbers, eager to grab a bargain, and, in all weathers.

"We survived a deluge of rain one year and then a heatwave the next, but still keen booters and buyers made their way to us.

"Only two car boots have ever been cancelled, one due to Covid and another to monsoon rainfall, so we are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that we avoid any climatic extremes after this summer’s bonkers weather."

Gates open to the public at 8am, with sellers welcome from 7.15am.

The event will be clearly signposted from the A31 and A272, and facilities on site will include refreshments, disabled parking and a Portaloo.

Sellers are asked to pay £10 per car and £15 per van, trailer or double pitch, while buyers will make a donation to Home-Start volunteers manning the entrance gate.
