A family support charity is marking more than two decades of service.

Home-Start Winchester celebrated 21 years of helping families with an anniversary event hosted by Lord and Lady Wakeham at their 15th-century barn in Pinglestone, near Alresford.

More than 80 guests attended the summer drinks party, including MP Danny Chambers, Winchester mayor Cllr Jamie Scott, past mayor Cllr Sudhakar Achwal, trustees, staff and volunteers.

Lady Wakeham said: "It was a very happy occasion and a wonderful opportunity to thank everyone who has supported Home-Start for the last 21 years.

"It was good to see so many of our long-standing friends and it was our pleasure to invite them so that we could say our heartfelt thanks for all they have done to support our charity.”

The Mayor of Winchester praised Home-Start for its valuable work providing friendship, emotional and practical help to young families in and around Winchester.

Home-Start helps families cope with a diverse range of complex issues including mental health problems, domestic abuse, isolation, disabilities and multiple births.

The charity is primarily funded by grants, donations and fundraising activities, and its 45 trained volunteers provide a regular home visiting service.

The charity also provides support in five family support groups in the area.
