Three theatre members have completed a 100-mile trek across the South Downs.

Alec Walters, Jim Glaister and Marcus Whitfield of Winchester’s Chesil Theatre took part in the challenge from Eastbourne to Winchester to raise money for the redevelopment of the New Chesil Theatre.

Their eight-day walk began on Saturday, May 23 and concluded on Saturday, May 30.

After crossing the finish line, they said: "Eight days, 100 miles, and some of the hottest weather we've ever walked in – but every blister was worth it.

"The South Downs are spectacular, and knowing we were doing it for the future of Chesil Theatre kept us going on the toughest days.

"We're overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who donated and cheered us on.

"This is for every actor, writer and theatre-lover who'll one day walk through the doors of the new venue."

So far, more than £2,200 has been raised to support the project.

The redevelopment aims to transform Chesil Theatre into a state-of-the-art community performance centre.

Chesil Theatre is a well-loved part of Winchester’s arts scene, presenting a wide range of productions and supporting young talent through training and youth programmes.
