A Grade II-listed home that was once a village blacksmith's forge is up for sale near Winchester.

The Smithy, in Micheldever, dates back to before 1799 and served the village as a working forge for nearly 200 years. It was converted into a home in 2000 and still retains many of its original features.

The double-height forge is now the kitchen, dining, and living area, with original brick furnaces and chimney structures forming part of the design. It also has a range cooker, black quartz worktops, and a wood-burning stove.

The former stable door, which was once the forge entrance, still remains.

The house, set back from the road, has three bedrooms, two on the ground floor, along with the family bathroom. The main bedroom upstairs features an en-suite bathroom.

According to the listing, the arrangement of two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor, together with the main suite upstairs, created "flexible accommodation well suited to modern living."

The front door, set beneath a porch, opens into a central hallway with views through the house towards the garden. There is also a utility room and separate cloakroom on the ground floor.

The upstairs landing is described as bright and spacious, illuminated by a Velux window, and offers space for a study area and eaves storage.

An internal feature window with colourful glazing looks down into the forge room below.

Outside, the house has landscaped gardens, a gravel driveway, a single garage, and a workshop.

The rear garden has a terrace framed by brick-built raised beds, a lawn, and a secluded decked area. A mature cherry tree also provides a beautiful focal point.

According to the listing, the property is described being "steeped in local history and character" and a "remarkable building", with many architectural features that reflect its past.

The Smithy served the village as a working forge for almost two centuries, with the final blacksmith, Hugh Symes, retiring in 1995.

The garage, with a wood store to the rear, is currently used as a workshop, and an additional shed offers storage for garden tools and furniture.
