A new trustee has joined a family support charity, bringing decades of experience in healthcare and education.

Home-Start Winchester & Districts has welcomed physiotherapist Fleur Kitsell as a Trustee. Kitsell, who has lived in the area for over 24 years, brings a wealth of clinical, academic, and leadership expertise to the role.

She said: "After retirement in 2022, I found I already knew friends who had volunteered for Home-Start and, having learnt more about how the charity works, and its philosophy of providing support to families with young children, I found it resonated strongly with me.

"I really believe in the ethos of the charity, and am hugely impressed with the training that the volunteers are given and the wonderful core staff team, led by Service Manager, Liz Stannard, so I am delighted to be involved in supporting its work.

"I will be a member of the Bids team, and hope to be able to make a helpful contribution to their work in sourcing new income streams, as well as providing support to the range of family groups that the charity runs around Winchester and Eastleigh."

Originally moving to Hampshire for her work with the University of Southampton, Kitsell’s career has spanned hospital physiotherapy, academic teaching, and workforce development at regional and national levels.

Most recently, she worked for the national Global Health team. She has also worked in the independent sector in hospitals and out-patient clinics and as a Physiotherapy academic in the University sector.

Her specialist area of interest is the knee joint, and she holds a PhD in The Biomechanics of the Patello-femoral Joint.

Kitsell is a former recreational long-distance runner and describes herself as “delighted to be involved in supporting” Home-Start’s work.

She will be a member of the Bids team, focusing on securing new sources of funding and supporting the family groups the charity runs around Winchester and Eastleigh.

Kitsell’s appointment follows her retirement in 2022, after which she learned more about the charity through friends who were already involved.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, quilting, and cooking.

She has a daughter and two grandsons and spends a couple of days a week in term-time helping out with school runs and after school support.

Her energetic and enthusiastic young cocker spaniel Oscar McG guarantees that she gets out and about in all weathers.
