Police are stepping up patrols this winter to tackle the unique challenges of the busy festive season.

High-visibility policing will target anti-social behaviour, retail and street crime in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, particularly in busy town and city centres.

Donna Jones, police and crime commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, said: "This winter, I want to reaffirm my commitment to communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight that crime and anti-social behaviour has no place in our village, town and city centres.

"I want them to be vibrant, welcoming places where businesses thrive and people feel safe to live, come and do their shopping and enjoy our pubs, clubs and restaurants."

The campaign will involve officers, PCSOs and Special Constables working alongside community safety partners to keep public spaces safe.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary will carry out patrols during peak shopping periods and at festive events, aiming to deter shoplifting, reduce knife crime and address night-time economy issues such as alcohol-related violence.

Assistant chief constable Tara McGovern said: "As a force, our focus is on providing visible and proactive local policing, and we will build on that in December and January with plans on policing retail crime, anti-social behaviour and the night-time economy."
