Across Hampshire, discussions are underway about major changes to how our councils are structured and run.

Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council could eventually be replaced or merged under wider local government reorganisation plans, potentially creating an expanded Greater Southampton authority.

These might sound like technical decisions, but they will have very real effects on our daily lives, from who maintains our roads to how housing, planning and local services are managed.

Over recent weeks, we have been out in Romsey town centre speaking to residents, handing out leaflets and listening to what matters most to local people. The response has been mixed, some warmly supportive, others frustrated or disengaged, but one thing is clear: people want honesty, accountability and real representation.

Far too often, decisions are made behind closed doors with little consultation or transparency. Reform UK believes local democracy should start at street level with councillors who are visible, approachable and not afraid to have conversations with residents.

Whatever your view on national politics, it is the local decisions that shape everyday life, from bin collections to planning, road repairs and schools. Reform UK stands for common sense, community and putting local people first.

We will continue being out in Romsey, listening to residents and giving people a choice that truly represents them — not the same old establishment politics, but a new voice that speaks up for fairness, accountability and our town’s future.
