A young woman living with multiple terminal and chronic illnesses has spoken of the "incredible" support she receives from a Hampshire hospice.

Cassidy, from the Isle of Wight, has shared her experience to highlight the vital care and support she receives from Jacksplace, part of local hospices for children and young adults Naomi House & Jacksplace.

The 20-year-old, who has end stage heart failure, said: "My condition has progressively worsened every single day since birth, and in the past year, this decline has accelerated rapidly.

"I have been given only a few months left to live due to my heart failure deteriorating so severely."

She said: "While my symptoms never subside and every activity comes with pain and exhaustion, I cherish the times I can engage in things that bring me happiness.

"Whether that's spending time with family, enjoying a favourite musical, or simply sharing a conversation.

"These moments may be fleeting and often require immense effort, but they remind me that there is still light even in the darkest of days."

Cassidy's cardiac team referred her to Naomi House & Jacksplace for specialised palliative care.

The hospice has become an "indispensable" part of her life, offering her medical care and an escape from the clinical realities of her condition.

Cassidy said: "Over the past 20 years, an indescribable portion of my life has been spent within hospital walls.

"Naomi House & Jacksplace have been an incredible source of support for both me and my family, and they will continue to be in the time ahead."

Cassidy has respite stays at the hospice, where she can relax in the hydrotherapy pool or participate in physiotherapy, while giving her mum, who is her full-time carer, a much-needed break.

These visits also connect her with other young adults facing similar health challenges.

She said: "Stays at Jacksplace offer not only essential medical support but also a much-needed break from the harsh realities of my condition.

"It's a place where you are seen as an individual, where your care is personalised, and everything is taken at your own pace."

The bereavement support Jacksplace offers provides Cassidy with immense comfort, knowing her family will be cared for after she is gone.

Cassidy passionately advocates for the hospice, stating that they are a necessity, not a luxury.
