Hundreds of runners laced up for 5k race with a difference to raise money for hospices.

The sold-out "Run the Runway" event took place on Sunday, June 22 at Solent Airport in Lee-on-the-Solent, raising funds for Naomi House & Jacksplace, hospices supporting children and young adults.

Now in its third year, the event attracted 625 participants and is expected to raise more than £11,000 for the charity.

"Ezra has complex medical needs, so we go to the hospice for respite visits.

"It has been lovely to be part of this event and see people out raising money for the hospices."

Ruth’s daughter Gabi sounded the horn to start the race, and along with her brother Ezra cheered runners across the finish line and handed out medals.

Fareham Mayor Cllr Louise Clubley and her husband Jonathan also attended to show their support.

Martyn Francis, airport manager at Solent Airport, said: "For the third successful year, Solent Airport had the pleasure to be able to support the annual Airport 5k run.

"Each year it grows with more participants and provides a great opportunity to raise support for such a worthwhile charity."
