A charity 5k run on an airport running is returning for its third year.

Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices have announced the return of the Solent Airport 5k this June.

The event, which takes place on the runway at Solent Airport, Lee-on-the-Solent, will see runners take on a flat, straight and smooth stretch of asphalt.

The event is registered with UK Athletics, which means it is likely to attract some of the country’s most ambitious athletes, alongside local runners eager to achieve a new personal best.

Since its launch, the Solent Airport 5k has raised £13,500 for Naomi House & Jacksplace.

This year, the charity aims to match or exceed that total, helping to provide vital care and support for children, young people and their families.

Charlotte Patrick, events team leader at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to bring the Solent Airport 5k back for its third year.

"This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, thanks to the incredible support of UK Athletics, Solent Airport and Fareham City Council.

"The funds raised will make a real and lasting difference to the children, young people and families we support at Naomi House & Jacksplace.

"Whether you're an experienced runner or just looking for a fun challenge, we encourage everyone to sign up, take to the runway and make a difference."

The run will be chip-timed and runners of all abilities and speeds will be welcomed.

Participants need to be at least 16 years of age and entry starts from £14.50.
