Winchester City Council's garden waste collection service is becoming more popular, a meeting heard.
The scheme introduced in 2020 was initially controversial with households having to pay £39 for a brown bin. In the first year 22,000 were sold.
Cllr Kelsie Learney, cabinet member for climate emergency, said: "Its popularity has grown - 23,592 have been sold so far this year. We have seen a switch to bigger bins demonstrating how residents value this service."
The amount collected has been rising too. Cllr Learney said that in 2020-21 6,297 tonnes of garden waste was collected rising in 2023-24 to 7,324, an increase of 16 per cent.
In the first four months of last year the figure was 3,007 compared to this year when 3,274 tonnes were collected.
"I'm very pleased to say we are on track to collect more garden waste than ever before and from more subscribers."
