A WINCHESTER business is on a mission to educate people and businesses about the causes and impacts of climate change and what they can do about it.

DecarbonEaser was set up by Jim Lescop 18 months ago to help people reduce their carbon footprint and increase sustainability.

Mr Lescop, of Greenhill Avenue, Fulflood, has worked in France and Australia in corporate sales; and learning and development.

However, he quit his job three years ago and is now using his business background to help raise awareness within organisations.

The business has been going from strength to strength and was recently a finalist in the new business category at the Winchester Business Excellence Awards.

DecarbonEaser offers a series of group workshops to help groups work through the impacts of climate change.

Mr Lescop, 43, said: “I had no plans when I quit my job, but I knew I wanted a climate job. One of the workshops I run is called Climate Fresk. It fills a knowledge gap that needs to be filled quickly.”

Climate Fresk is designed to be a group workshop where people get a series of cards with various causes and impacts of climate change printed on them. The group has to arrange the cards on a table to show what causes each impact. They then discuss the impacts and how they can be reduced.

Mr Lescop added that learning interactively is the most effective way because it isn't passive such as a lecture or a webinar. He said: “A lot of the research and the reports published about climate change are very complex and difficult to understand. Climate Fresk simplifies it to make it easier for people to see how their action can impact climate change.”

He has been delivering the workshops to a range of businesses across Hampshire. He recently had a group of 15 people from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

As well as Climate Fresk, DecarbonEaser also offers workshops called The Biodiversity Collage and The Digital Collage. Also, the workshops have versions for children to be delivered in school from 10 years old.

Mr Lescop is urging people and businesses to get in touch to arrange a group workshop. On the DecarbonEaser website, it said: “We equip you with a framework to organise and monitor your journey towards reducing your carbon footprint, ensuring that every step taken is impactful and contributes to creating a sustainable future for all.”
