Romsey's town crier addressed residents to mark the first anniversary of the coronation of King Charles.

Terry Hamer has been a town crier for 14 years and is a familiar face around Romsey.

He said that he won a competition to be the town crier, one of 147 across the country.

Mr Hamer, 80, said: “There was a competition in Romsey where they decided they wanted a town crier.

"I decided to go in for the competition and subsequently I won it and I was asked to come to the town hall to be measured for my outfit. I've enjoyed every moment of it."

Mr Hamer was also assessed as part of the application.

He said: “For the competition, I had to do a 150 word cry. I was marked on the pronunciation, the clarity and the projection.”

He gave a cry at 12pm on Monday, May 6, which said: “On this day - the sixth of May in the year 2024 - let us celebrate this first anniversary of the glorious coronation by true and venerable tradition of Charles Philip Arthur George.
