Stagecoach will be offering free travel later this month and on Sundays next month to celebrate the launch of frequency buses along a major route in Hampshire.

From Sunday, May 26, passengers will have more choices on when they can catch the bus which goes between Winchester and Romsey.

To celebrate, the buses will be completely free to use on Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27, as well as all Sundays throughout June.

Service 66 will have an enhanced frequency, with buses running half-hourly during the daytime, Mondays to Saturdays, between Winchester and Romsey via Hursley, Ampfield and Abbotswood. Earlier and later journeys will be introduced on Sundays.

Mark Jackson, operations manager, said: “Service 66 provides a direct link between the cathedral city and market town. It also serves the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, as well as Winchester rail station, where customers can access fast trains to London, the Midlands and the North.

“I am confident this latest enhancement will provide improved connectivity, meaning customers can meet with family and friends, access leisure and health services, or simply do some shopping, ensuring the bus remains an attractive travel option.”

As well as the increased frequency, all buses on service 66 will run along the same route between Romsey and Abbotswood via Winchester Hill and Braishfield Road, in each direction.

Mark said: “We’re adding extra buses at our busiest stops, helping residents in growing new communities to travel sustainably by bus.

“Our buses are still part of the government’s £2 single fare cap.  A trip on the bus is already great value. We look forward to welcoming customers on board.”

Timetables and more information about these changes can be found on Stagecoach’s website.
