A number of items have been fly-tipped at a local village hall in the Meon Valley.

Swanmore Village Hall have posted on Facebook to show several items of clothing, as well as bags and food items, had been left alongside a number of charity collection bins located in the hall car park.

Several car tyres had also been left in the area, with the food thought to have come from a food bank.

The post from Swanmore Village Hall on Tuesday said: "If the clothing bins are full at the village hall, please take your bags home and come back when there is space, use the clothing bin just inside the college entrance or the tip at Bishop's Waltham.

"Please do not leave it piled up in the car park. Car tyres do not go in the bin.

"If you don't need your food bank food then don't get it in the first place or ask your neighbour if they want it.

"There are addresses amongst the belongings so we can return some of it to the owners, plus we have you on CCTV dropping it off. We'll give you 48 hours to collect and dispose of it properly before we make flytipping reports."

A member of the Hampshire Chronicle visited the village hall on Thursday, May 2 to observe that the items were still there, now ruined from the poor weather over the last couple of days.

Three charity bins are located in the village hall car park, belonging to South Central Ambulance Service, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Scope UK.

Divisional Manager at disability equality charity Scope, Nigel Davis, said: “We really appreciate the effort people go to have a clear out, but when donations are left outside of the bank, we are unable to sell them.  This is a lost opportunity for the charity.

“Every kind donation given to our textile banks helps to fund disability equality charity Scope’s vital support services for disabled people and their families.

“We desperately need donations but if the textile bank is full, we kindly ask you to take your bags home and deliver them another day. Alternatively, you could drop them into our shops at 213 Portswood Road, Southampton, or 14 London Road, Portsmouth.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said: "If your local Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance clothing bank is full, please let us know and we will arrange for it to be emptied.

"We request for donations not to be left outside of the clothing bank under any circumstances. Instead, take it to the nearest empty clothing bank, or organise a home collection through our website. We have contacted our partners at Recycling Solutions and requested they visit and assess the capacity of our Swanmore clothing bank at their soonest availability."

South Central Ambulance Service and Swanmore Parish Council were also contacted for comment but have not yet replied.
