Jack Musgrave, the Cumbrian teenager bravely battling cancer, is officially in remission, his overjoyed family have said.

Jack, from Penrith, has been fighting Hodgkin lymphoma for the last six months.

And the football-mad teenager is now free of the disease, mum Linda Hebson has confirmed.

She shared the brilliant news on social media, with Carlisle United fan Jack's health battle having attracted huge support from across Cumbria since his diagnosis last October.

"He's done it!! The cancer has been Mellished!!," said Linda, referring to Jack's aim to tackle the disease in the no-nonsense style of United defender Jon Mellish.

"Jack is officially in remission.

"Check ups of MRI scans and xrays for the next 3 years.

"So proud of him He hasn't stopped smiling since he left the consultants office."

Jack, who attends Ullswater Community College in Penrith, has been undergoing treatment at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary since being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

His story has attracted support from a huge range of sources.

Jack's friends have taken on charity challenges in support of their 15-year-old pal.

Carlisle United plus other local sporting clubs have also rallied around the teenager, who plays junior football for Calthwaite.

A public online fundraiser also raised thousands to help Jack and his family with the demands of their regular trips to the north east, while Linda put her business, Linda's Cupcakes, on pause to devote all the time possible to caring for Jack.

The teenager will next month ring the bell in hospital to mark the success of his cancer fight.
