Winchester Science Centre, ran by charity Wonderseekers, is hunting 20 children to join its Young Steering Group.

The young recruits will help shape the charity's future and also provide their thoughts and insights on key topics within the science community.

The current Young Steering Group has spent two years successfully conveying children's perspective on important scientific topics.

They've taken part in launching Wonderseekers' seven-year strategy, attended events to pass on their knowledge to other children and tested new workshops and Science Centre activities.

Bethan, a nine-year-old member of the Young Steering Group, said: "I feel so happy to part of the Young Steering Group, and lucky to be invited to be a part of it.

"It has helped me get a bigger understanding of science and the many ways we use science in our day to day lives."

Another member, Tillie, seven, said: "I like how Wonderseekers help the Young Steering Group to learn about our world and how we can help children and grown-ups learn about the world around us too.

"Even if they know all about our world already, we can help all of those people to learn about science."

Ben Ward, chief executive of Wonderseekers, said: "We believe that all children should have the opportunity to improve their lives and the lives of others. Through science, we want to empower them to make a positive impact on our planet, and the best people to help us achieve this goal are children themselves.

"It’s been a real pleasure and privilege to work alongside our current Young Steering Group over the past few years.

"I’m looking forward to working with the next group of ambitious young people to help drive our Charity forward."
