IT WAS last ball heartbreak for Hursley Park, whose hopes of a coveted place in the inaugural Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup Grand Finals at the Rose Bowl were dashed by a last gasp six.
Ed Denham was Bournemouth's hero, smashing Jimmy Taylor's last ball of the match high over the long-off boundary to clinch a semi-final spot for the Dorset club.
Chasing Hursley Park's 145-7, they needed 11 runs off the last over and five to win off the final ball, which 18-year old Denham slammed for six to prompt a mini-pitch invasion by his estatic teammates.
Denham, 18, remained ice cool through the dramatic, tense finale.
"I knew a four would tie the game and give us victory, and targetted point or long off.
"Jimmy Taylor bowled a ball of full length and I planted it over the long-off boundary for a six to win the game," he explained.
The result was heartbreak for Hursley Park opener Scott Mills, who earlier struck a Twenty20 best 91 not out, including six sixes and six fours.
