SIR - On Sunday, August 3, I attended the Leukaemia Busters motocross charity meeting held at Matterley Basin by the Hampshire Motocross Club.

They raised a large amount of money and the racing was good.

The Matterley Basin track was introduced to us in 2006 where it staged the British Grand Prix and the Motocross of Nations.

The nations event was supposed to be the last race for two of the world's greatest ever riders, and this became a problem when so many supporters turned up from around the world and Great Britain.

Because of this the council stopped any other GPs from taking place, even though the GP in June 2006 was a success with only minor problems which you would expect being a first time event at the site.

I'm writing this letter to send my support to the sport and to the track. It deserves to have GPs as it is one of the best tracks in the country for the spectators.

It is once a year, and there is only a small amount of disruption to the surrounding roads, and it is good for the city.

It is a family day out or weekend, I have some awesome memories from 2006, and I just hope that they are not the last.

Please give Matterley Basin a second chance; the landowner has done a fabulous job in bringing world motocross to our area, and probably building one of the best tracks in England.

Please show your support, e-mail or write to Winchester City Council and maybe we can bring Matterley Basin to life once again.
