SOUTHERN Water has been criticised on a range of issues locally recently from residential water outages, to sewage overflows and burst mains.

However, I wanted to praise their response to the high groundwater levels, causing basement flooding and infiltration of the underground sewage pipes in the village of Hursley.

Southern Water has deployed tankers to pump out and take away the village sewage and avoid releasing contaminated water into our chalk streams for 24 hours a day for several weeks now.

Tankers take 1-2 hours to fill before the next replacement tanker takes its place at the pumping station without a break in service.

I would also like to thank the tanker operators and our local Councillor Jan Warwick who has liaised with Southern Water throughout this challenging time for our residents.

I would like to apologise to anyone who is delayed by the temporary traffic lights in the village and to those who are disturbed by the sound of pumping. I would like to extend the thanks from villagers to Southern Water for ensuring we can continue to use our toilets.

Chair Hursley Parish Council
