In Winchester advisers will be at secondary schools and colleges or alternatively young people can call 01962 714271 to book an appointment to see an adviser.

Councillor David Kirk, Hampshire County Council's Executive Lead Member for Children's Services said: "This time of year is one of great anticipation for young people and their parents as they look forward to getting their exam results.

"It can also be a worrying time and I would urge any young person who is unsure of what to do next or needing help to choose courses, apply for jobs or further training opportunities to speak to one of our Connexions personal advisers.

"They are trained specialists who can offer professional help and guidance and are ready and waiting to help young people across the county achieve their ambitions. So whatever your results, whatever your queries I am sure they can help."

Three top tips if your exam results are not what you expected: Think about retaking some of the subjects if you didn't get the grades you were hoping for - you could consider going to college to do this.

If your results or grades are lower than expected, contact your chosen college or university as they may still offer you a place.

If you are wanting to go to university but your results aren't good enough to get you into your first choice uni you can also enter the clearing' system which gives you the opportunity to gain a college place before the academic year starts.

Above all don't panic - you still have plenty of options. Call your local Connexions service for advice, log onto www.hampshireconnexions.co.uk or call Connexions Direct on 080 800 13 2 19.
