A MANHOLE cover leaking on High Street is being fixed almost a week after water started pouring out of it.

As previously reported, the cover, which is located outside of the Rick Stein restaurant in High Street, had been streaming across the street after the flooding was first noted on Tuesday, April 2.

The flooding had come about after the area had experienced heavy rain over the Easter weekend.

The issue persisted until Monday, April 8, when works to rectify the issue with the manhole cover were undertaken, and barriers temporarily placed around the cover.

Several of the surrounding blocks had to be removed to allow remedy works to take place. The water coming from the manhole cover has since stopped.

A spokesperson for Southern Water said: “Our teams will be fixing a leaking stop tap at Winchester High Street this week, we’re sorry for the impact this is causing.
