Flood alerts have been issued across various parts of Winchester and the surrounding area.

Several areas have had flood alerts updated between Tuesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 4, with residents urged to 'be prepared' ahead of potential flooding.

Nine areas have been earmarked for potential flooding, with all the areas currently under an amber alert, which is a flood alert.

Groundwater levels in all nine areas are high due to excessive rainfall seen within the past few weeks, with the water level falling in several locations, but staying high and even increasing in some places.

The flood alerts are in place in the following locations:

  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Bishop's Sutton;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Bramdean and Cheriton;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Twyford and Hensting;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Hursley;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in King's Somborne and Little Somborne;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Pitton, West Tytherley, Nether Wallop and Broughton;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Hambledon;
  • Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in the Meon Valley from East Meon to Soberton.

Flood warnings are rated from low risk to high risk, with 'alert' being the lowest warning level, before a 'warning' and a 'severe flood warning'. A severe flood warning can mean danger to life.

A flood alert means you need to prepare, as flooding is possible.
