A vet from Romsey has been awarded the prized title of Vet of the Year at the 2024 Petplan Veterinary Awards.

Alison Hammond, from Mainstone Veterinary Clinic in Romsey, was awarded the prestigious title and trophy at a black tie ceremony, hosted by TV personality Claudia Winkleman on Thursday, March 21.

Now in its 25th year, Petplan received more than 38,000 nominations from pet owners and veterinary colleagues, a credit to the number of dedicated and hardworking veterinary professionals across the UK.

Presidents of prestigious veterinary associations made up the awards’ independent and expert panel of judges.

The judging criteria was based on providing exceptional levels of care, outstanding expertise and professionalism and great interpersonal skills, all of which Alison was shown to have excelled in.

Flying the flag for Mainstone Veterinary Clinic, Alison Hammond said: “I’m just amazed, I’m actually speechless which doesn’t happen often. I’m so proud of getting it but also all the work I do with the team. You don’t do this on your own.

"I enjoy the challenge every day. Every day is different, you get to know your clients so well.”
