TREES in a Romsey housing estate have been saved after a protection order was confirmed.

Test Valley Borough Council's southern area planning committee unanimously voted in favour of a tree protection order at Great Well Drive.

The landowner Mrs Gadsdon objected to a tree protection order being made.

In the planning officers' report, it said: “This comes as a result of a threat to trees from information provided to the Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) that the landowner had informed neighbours of a proposal to fell the trees.

“The trees within Area A1 exhibit good health and value to the locality due to their public visibility. The tree is an important feature within the locality of Great Well Drive and Latham Road, adding to the character of the area, it is entirely reasonable that the order is confirmed without modification.”

At the meeting on Tuesday, April 2, Cllr Alan Dowden said it would have a significant impact on the street scene if the trees were felled.
