A driver has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a Southampton vehicle-recovery worker in a horror crash on the M3.

Mohamed Saleemi, 64, appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court yesterday following the death of Vologea Mihaliuc on February 21, 2022.

The 54-year-old had been working as a recovery worker at the time and had gone to the M3 near Chilworth at around 11.25pm to recover a vehicle.

He was involved in a crash with a Mercedes Vito and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saleemi, of Cedar Road, Eastleigh is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

He is also accused of perverting the course of justice in relation to a mobile phone containing evidence which he allegedly concealed.

The 64-year-old spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

Prosecuting, Ryan Seneviratne told magistrates: "Two of those three charges have to go to the crown court by law. Essentially all matters are linked so I invite you to send those three charges to the crown court."

Seleemi was bailed to appear at Southampton Crown Court on May 3 at 10am.

Magistrate, Helen Gaskell released him on unconditional bail.
