BROUGHTON Floral Club recently enjoyed a talk on basket making by Louise Brown.

Audrey Watts, from the club, said: “Starting with the history of this ancient craft, a piece of basket is in the British Museum dated 3,000 years old.

“Sadly, there are not the amount of willow growers left in the country today, so Louise buys early in the season as it is cut.  It was interesting to see how different techniques and treatments change the colour of the willow making baskets all so different.
