For the first time, Winchester Science Centre is hosting an event where children will be co-presenters on April 12.

The Science Explained: Science of Jurassic Park event is part of the centre's charity, Wonderseekers's mission which aims to empower children to use science to inspire others.

Children will sit alongside experts, presenting their dinosaur collections and sharing their dinosaur expertise with visitors.

Three members of the Wonderseekers Young Steering Group, Jack, Bella and Bowen, will join experts from the Isle of Wight’s Dinosaur Isle Museum and the University of Southampton.

Jack said: "Dinosaurs big and small are amazing.

"I am really interested in the past and want to share my fossil collection with everyone, including my megalodon tooth."

Bella added that she enjoys sharing the knowledge she's acquired over the years.

She said: "I especially love sharing my knowledge with young people and to help spark a love for palaeontology."

Bowen said dinosaurs and pre-history are his special interest, adding: "I’ve read hundreds of dinosaur books over the years, and fossil hunted myself.

"I have strange and interesting artifacts to bring."

Ben Ward, chief executive of Wonderseekers, said they know from their visitors that children often feel like science isn’t something for them.

He added: "Our Young Steering Group want to change that opinion and show other children all the exciting things that can be done through engaging with science.

"We’re thrilled that they have taken over our Science Explained event and are working alongside our adult experts to help inspire other children’s love of dinosaurs.”
