A COUNCIL tenant said she feels "very let down once again" after a sub contractor let hot water leak into her tumble dryer.

Karen Alexander, who is a member of Tenants and Council Together (TACT), told the Chronicle that a lack of communication from Winchester City Council caused a lot of "emotional distress".

Mrs Alexander, of Chatham Road, Stanmore, explained the problem when a council sub contractor came to fix a boiler on March 12.

The 42-year-old NHS medical laboratory assistant said: “A council sub contractor came to fix the issue with the pressure dropping on our boiler tried to hide the fact he had let hot water leak onto our tumble dryer and all over the kitchen floor.

“We later discovered when opening the dryer it had hot water in it. It was still connected to electricity, he never apologised and when I brought him up on it he said could he use our kitchen roll to clean it up.

“I ended up drying the kitchen floor and tumble dryer myself. We are left without a tumble dryer and feel very let down once again by the council. I worry if this had happened to a very vulnerable person.”

Mrs Alexander added: “The council and their lack of action and communication with us has caused a lot of emotional distress.

“My husband had to make a formal complaint about the tumble dryer as nobody was answering the phone or getting back to my emails so now we have to wait 10 days for them to investigate so we are without a tumble dryer and without confidence in the council as usual.”

A Winchester City Council spokesman said: “We are disappointed to hear this as we always expect our contractors to offer the best service for our tenants, our officers have left a message with the tenant and are in touch with the contractor to try and resolve this, and we will keep them updated.”
