A free Health and Wellbeing Day for older community members is set to unfold at the Winchester Sports and Leisure Park.

Managed by Everyone Active and Winchester City Council, the centre will open its doors on Friday March 15 from 10am to 1pm with a variety of free trial classes and activities.

The park’s squash courts will be transformed into breakout spaces where attendees can sample classes such as Chair Yoga, Assisted Circuits, Steady and Strong, and an award-winning Move Momentum Dance.

In the main sports hall, charity stalls will be set up with representatives from Move Momentum, Icarus, Winchester Beacon, St Johns Dementia Support, the Royal Osteoporosis Society and Andover Mind.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with these charity representatives during the event.

Additionally, the park’s GP referral service, which partners with local health professionals to promote physical activity over medicinal treatments for improved physical wellbeing.

To complement the jam-packed schedule, a café space will be available throughout the day offering refreshments.

Rebecca Woodford, activity and wellbeing manager, said: "Being able to stay active later in life is crucial, and we are delighted to host this day which will not only showcase the incredible facilities at our centre, but local charities which provide the support that is sometimes needed to improve physical and mental health.

“We encourage all seniors to come along and see what we have to offer whilst – it’s never too late to try something new!”

Winchester City Council’s cabinet member for community and engagement Cllr Kathleen Becker said: “I would encourage everyone to come along to this event and find out more about the many fantastic physical health and mental wellbeing opportunities that are available to district residents.

"Age is a number and not a limitation so, no matter where you are on your own fitness journey, why not take up this chance to talk to get support and advice from those who really know what they're talking about.”
