Two lecturers from the University of Winchester are planning a temporary revival for typewriters.
Dr Mark Rutter and Judy Waite are employing the antiquated technology in their 'Stanza Room' at the upcoming Bournemouth Writing Festival, from April 26-28.
Dr Rutter and Ms Waite, who are both creative writing lecturers, are appealing for working manual typewriters and associated office gear such as typewriter ribbons, carbon paper, and correction fluid, for their project.
Visitors will get a chance to hammer out a poem on a manual typewriter, or even construct a piece of typed art, that will be displayed in the Stanza Room, situated in the Bandstand in Lower Gardens.
"Typewriters offer great scope for creativity," said Dr Rutter. "A typewriter gives you regular spacing and creates many visual possibilities."
To add to the ambiance, Dr Rutter and Ms Waite will perform 'musical' numbers on typewriters throughout the weekend.
