SCORES of dog walkers will journey through fields in the Hampshire countryside to raise money for a Winchester-based charity.

Some 50 walkers, with and without dogs, will be taking to the fields and lanes around Bighton near Alresford, to raise funds for family support charity Home-Start Winchester.

Home-Start Events Chairman Chrissie Barlow will bring her best friend Reilly, a beautiful red setter, and event sponsor Dan Bliss, of Gay Dog Boarding Kennels, will bring his canine chum Cody the Lurcher.

Chrissie said: "It’s always a great opportunity to meet old friends and enjoy a walk in the spring sunshine.

"However, dogs are not compulsory, you can come for the exercise or even just for lunch."

A firm favourite in the charity’s fundraising calendar, it has been held since 2012 and dogged walkers have taken part every year, whatever the weather.

Dan added: "This is our seventh year of sponsoring the walk and we are very happy to be supporting Home-Start and the work that the charity does with young families in the area."

The dog walk will take place on Friday, March 15, beginning at Bighton Village Hall.

Arrival is 10.30am and departure 10.45am.

There will be two walks of different lengths including some stiles, and a hearty ploughman’s lunch will be ready to welcome walkers on their return with a choice of four home-made soups.

Tickets cost £12.50 and can be booked online with an 87p booking fee at www.ticketsource.co.uk/home-start-winchester-districts or you can email: info@home-startwinchester.org.uk or call:  07976 686979.
