THE Theatre Royal is welcoming a series of shows based on Julia Donaldson's books through March and April.

The first is an adaptation of Zog and the Flying Doctors, brought to life by Freckle Productions, which will be running from March 8-10.

The play tells the story of Zog, a super keen student turned air-ambulance who, with his Flying Doctor crew of Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout, tends to a sunburnt mermaid, a unicorn with one too many horns and a lion with the flu.

However, Pearl’s uncle, the King, has other ideas about whether princesses should be doctors and she is locked up in the castle. But, with some help from friends, can Peal make her uncle better and prove princesses can be doctors?

Later, The Gruffalo’s Child tells of the creature ignoring her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse to tiptoe into the deep dark wood to see if he really exists.

In April, Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book tells of a boy who loves reading – especially books about pirates and who tries to convince his sister that reading is fun.
