A VILLAGE shop was forced to temporarily close after being targeted by vandals.

Colden Common Neighbourhood Watch is urging residents to “protect their community” after the Co-operative Food in St Vigor Way was broken into in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, February 20).

A member of staff posted on the Colden Common Residents page on Facebook: “Unfortunately, the shop will be shut until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

The shop re-opened this afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Southern Co-op said: “The store had a break in, the early hours of this morning. Police have attended and forensics are on site. We will look to reopen the store as soon as possible.”

A poster distributed by the neighbourhood watch group reads: “Someone must have suspicions regarding the culprits. Ring the police on 101. We need to stop this ASAP.”

A resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said it looked like the front door had been smashed and it was flooded inside.

Hampshire Police has been contacted for more information.
