WORLD-RENOWNED touring folk musician, Martin Simpson, will play St Mary’s Church in Twyford for an intimate solo set this spring.

Martin is widely considered to be one of the most talented acoustic and slide guitar players, and his performances have drawn praise and admiration over his career, which has spanned more than four decades.

In his shows, he performs both original and traditional covers, for which he has been described as a remarkable storyteller.

He is listed in Gibson Guitars’ Top 30 Acoustic Guitarists of all time, and Acoustic Guitar readers voted him number 12 guitarist in the world in 2005.

Canadian musician, Stephen Fearing, said: “Martin Simpson has transcended borders and oceans to quietly become a superb storyteller and musician of great depth and unquestionable taste.”

Martin has been nominated for various BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 32 times, winning many accolades throughout the years such as 2004’s Musician of the Year and 2008’s Best Album with Prodigal Son.

He now tours up and down the UK and beyond, playing English traditional folk, American folk and blues and his own compositions.

In recent years, he has been a lynchpin in the award-winning Full English, The Elizabethan Sessions and in 2015, he recorded Murmurs - an award winning album with Andy Cutting and Nancy Kerr.

Home Recordings was recorded at his home by his regular producer, now neighbour, Andy Bell, and finds Martin singing and playing, literally amongst his beloved guitar and banjo collection and out on his Peak District-facing porch.

Always prolific, and never one to rest long without a guitar in his hands and a song in his head, Martin is genuinely thrilled to be back out on the road now, back where he loves to be - playing live.

The show is on Saturday April 13 and tickets which are £20 in advance are on sale now: https://www.seetickets.com/.../st-mary-s-church/2729093
