A MENOPAUSE café, designed to combat stigma and build awareness, will be launching at a Winchester café and bar.

Cabinet Rooms, in Jewry Street, will host the city’s first menopause café next month. The event is organised by Sharon Worth, a personal trainer also known as The Meno Coach, who specialises in supporting women’s health and wellbeing.

Sharon, who is a certified menopause coach, personal trainer and yoga teacher, aims to build a supportive menopause community in Winchester.

She said: “I’m so excited that Marcus and Gary (from the Cabinet Rooms) have been so willing to provide their private and cosy downstairs space for this purpose. I have always felt a real community-focused and fully inclusive vibe from the Cabinet Rooms and so they were the obvious choice for me when I started considering possible venues for this fantastic initiative.”

A Menopause Cafe is a discussion group, open to all ages and genders. The movement started in Perth, in Scotland, in 2017 and has spread across the world, with volunteers now hosting pop-up events in the UK, Bahrain, Mexico, USA, Austria and India.

Rachel Weiss, founder of the Menopause Café charity, said: “The Menopause Café is for everyone who wants to talk about the menopause, to share their stories, experiences, and questions - all made that little bit easier with tea and cake.

“Unfortunately, many people feel that they should just ‘get on with’ the menopause, with some never talking to their friends or family about it. People can come along and just listen, or join in the discussions, hopefully leaving with a clearer sense of the impact of the menopause on those who are experiencing it, alongside their families, friends, and colleagues.”

Kirsty Wark, patron of the Menopause Café Charity, said: “I am delighted to be a patron of this charity which is dedicated to getting everyone talking about the menopause. This is the way to a healthier, happier future.”

Winchester’s menopause café is free to attend from 5.30 to 7.30pm on Thursday, March 28. Booking is recommended, to do so go to eventbrite.com/e/menopause-cafe-winchester-hampshire-uk-tickets-815364797057 or click on the events tab at menopausecafe.net/.
