There has been previous correspondence indicating dismay at the long-since-stopped clock on the old Guildhall in Winchester High Street, that is now Lloyds Bank.

With the annual bulletin of Atomic Scientists stating recently that their assessment of the state of danger from global threats from climate catastrophe to nuclear war means that we are worryingly just 90 seconds to midnight from catastrophe, it remains perturbing to look up and see that we have been just a minute to midnight for quite some time now in Winchester.

It would be a delight to see the clock fixed but I hazard to guess that access to technical skills and cost might be considerations. The whole historic building must be quite a cost burden for the bank.  Let’s hope they don’t use it as an excuse to close, as is happening to so many bank branches across the country.

I hope to look forward to thanking the bank for getting things ticking along nicely soon.
