A ROAD in Swanmore has re-opened after over a week of emergency works to repair a gas leak.

Church Road was closed from Tuesday, January 23 while SGN’s Southern Repair Team replaced the gas main with a new plastic pipe.

The closure disrupted public transport with bus services having to use alternative routes or not stop in Swanmore.

The road was expected to remain closed until Tuesday, February 6 but re-opened on Thursday, February 1.

Properties close to the leak were evacuated from their homes to begin with, with SGN arranging hotel accommodation, shopping and food vouchers for the residents impacted.

The Brickmakers pub was also forced to close for three days and continued to struggle with reduced footfall due to the roadworks.

Landlady Koren Blake previously said: “This year has been a completely different ball game. The gas leak has been really stressful. This sort of thing can make or break a pub, we’re all struggling.”
