WINCHESTER Science Centre has announced a new programme of events this winter.

Between Saturday, January 27 and Monday, February 19, the science centre will see the return of Zero Degrees.

In The Hibernation Station, families will learn all about what the UK’s native species are up to during winter. And for those feeling brave, there will be a chance to step outside and try some hibernation den building.

Back inside, the science centre will welcome a 20-minute free live science show called Test the Water, about the different effects of hot and cold water.

Audiences will watch a can crusher experiment to see how cold and hot water affect the shape of a drink's can. They will also find out how convection plays a role in the movement of liquids and witness a film canister rocket distance race finale.

Over in the Planetarium, space adventurers will blast off into the stars in the presenter-led show, Beyond the Moon.

The show will enable families to fly around the solar system learning more about the constellations, planets and moons. In the subtitled film show Astronaut, visitors will find out what it takes to become a real-life spaceman.

Additionally, Science Live will perform demonstrations involving fire, ice and smoke. Meanwhile, the interactive exhibits of Explorer: Space and the sound, vibration and hearing exhibition will be offering fun to visitors, including venturing into a 10m long guitar to feel the vibrations, experiencing acoustics inside the sonic rocket and climbing inside a giant ear to explore its inner workings.
