A HAMPSHIRE stroke club is celebrating its 50th anniversary, just months after closure fears.

The Romsey Open Gate Stroke Club is having a party to mark the occasion on Tuesday, February 6 at the Romsey Abbey Church Rooms.

Past and present members and supporters are looking forward to an afternoon of musical entertainment and afternoon tea.

The stroke club feared closure last year after a drop-off in volunteers.

However, after an appeal in the Romsey Advertiser, 10 new volunteers came forward to save the club.

Secretary Joy Clamp said: “Many people have been supporting the club for decades and it is hoped that some of this hard work will be recognised at the celebration. Without their dedicated support people affected by stroke in the Romsey area would have had no-one to turn to as they came to terms with their illness.”
