Four cars collided on the M27 this morning after a dog was seen on the motorway.

The pile-up blocked two lanes between junction 8 at Bursledon and junction 9 at Park Gate and caused severe delays during rush hour.

The crash happened after a dog was seen on the eastbound carriageway.

The animal has since been taken to a local vets. No-one has been injured.

A police spokesperson said: "At 08:26 this morning, we were called to reports of a collision involving four cars on the M27 Eastbound between junctions 8 and 9, after a dog was seen on the carriageway.

"The dog has been located and taken to a local vets.

"No injuries have been reported."
