SPARSHOLT Village Shop is looking for new volunteers to help run the community store. Anyone who has a couple of hours spare one weekday (or Saturday) morning and would like to be involved in a friendly team is encouraged to pop into the shop in Woodman Lane and speak to Janette or one of the volunteers.

THE Friends of Sparsholt School (FoSS) has organised a film night for the pupils on Friday, February 23 from 6-8pm in the village hall.

Tickets costs £6.50 per child and include pizza and a chocolate bar. Limited spaces are available so people are encouraged to book by speaking to their class rep as soon as possible.

SPARSHOLT School will once again be holding Children’s Mental Health Week from Monday, February 5. A variety of activities have been planned for each day to help support children with their emotional wellbeing. The school will also be welcoming back ‘Dino the dog’.

INTEREST around what was planted at the community events in Lovedon Fields, in Kings Worthy, before Christmas has grown. It’s been revealed on The Worthy Community Facebook page that mainly Hawthorne, Hazel, Field Maple and Buckthorn was planted in addition to Dogwood, Honeysuckle, Dog Rose, Elder, Goat Willow, Rowan and Crabapple.

EMILY Lowndes, from Kings Barton, is hosting a Valentine’s Disco in February half term to raise money for an assistance dog to help her son Stefan manage his autism.

The disco, which includes pizza, party games and a raffle, runs from 5.30pm to 10pm on Friday, February 16 at Weeke Community Centre. Tickets cost £5 per adult, £3 per child and under threes go free.

LITTLETON and Harestock Gardening Club’s next talk will be on gardening on chalk with Geoff Hodge. The talk starts at 7.30pm on Thursday, February 21 on Zoom.

The club, founded in 1992, for gardeners of any experience, meets on the third Wednesday of each month, usually at Littleton Memorial Hall.  The following meeting will be the group’s annual general meeting on March 20. Meanwhile, All Saints Flower Arranging Club meets on the last Thursday of the month at the hall from 2-4pm.

THE Martyr Worthy Lecture Series continues on Friday, February 2 with Dr John Davies. Dr Davies’ talk ‘Fame and Obscurity’ will explore Queen Victoria’s two favourite court artists.

The event starts at Itchen Abbas and Avington Village Hall at 6.30pm for drinks and canapes before the hour-long lecture begins at 7.15pm. Tickets cost £25, with proceeds being split between the four churches in the Itchen Valley Parish.
